Some of us stray away from our socialization but that’s mainly due to us teaching ourselves new things or choosing to learn from others. Where the influences come from and are mounted is usually not much of a surprise but where they may lead can be just as surprising as the effects.

The thing is we can become new to ourselves. We can become relevantly different and after a while we might even need reintroduction to parts of ourselves: parts we never knew had changed, parts we never intended to change.

Worldview

At first this word reminded me of my glasses. “It’s just how you see the world!” Whenever I used to think about it using the glasses’ perspective, it was indeed how you saw the world. It was never how you chose to see it or how the world presented itself to you. It’s always how you saw the world and taking that choice away is what made it dangerous.

I saw the world and put all guilt on it. When I didn’t acknowledge how I felt it was the world that needed to regulate my emotions. Where the result of my actions wasn’t in my favor, the world was acting unfair. Something was out to get me. When I suffered as a consequence of my actions, I couldn’t see how I possibly could have contributed. Even when things went right, I took no credit. With no accountability for the good, the bad, or the ugly, I was permanently lost.

I was lost not because I had no idea what to do. I was lost because no matter what happened, I was never the one who had acted. I was letting the world happen to me yet I wasn’t doing anything about it.

I was wrong. You might be wrong too and being this wrong could be what costs us our mind. We owe the world a choice of worldview.

When we choose to see, we choose light. We choose love, we choose care. We choose respect, we choose pain, which progresses us towards being better. We choose better use of our time and knowledge. All comes from how we choose to see the world.

Our lens on the world determines what we focus on. What we focus on becomes what we learn. What we learn becomes who we are and who we are shouldn’t be a tyrannical response simply because we have become too angry or too consumed in what looked wrong for us to figure ourselves out when we needed to. That’s where we start owing the world.

We owe it to us and the world to use our gift of choice. It is in that choice where humanity thrives. In the knowledge that we have a choice is the accountability which comes as a consequence. In that accountability we start to act right and in doing so we realign ourselves with trust, kindness, humility, respect, and creativity. All traits which make us completely human.

Realignment doesn’t only make you feel good. It betters your life. A life where choices are realized and accounted for is a life of true purpose. It is a life of the right systems. The right systems make up a more complete person. That’s what you owe: a complete version of you. You owe a commitment to always update yourself and make yourself a good deal.

The world stays the way it is. The corrupt and unjust mechanisms which make the world what it is today are not personal. They are just the way they are and they manifest themselves in the world we see each and every day. It is up to you to choose where you place yourself: a watcher without a choice or a player with the choice to make it through all levels while playing at the most human level possible. Thing about the game you choose to play? Once you choose to cheat on it, you’re basically cheating on yourself. So play it well.

Subscribe now
